Automation

Handing a program a repetitive task with clear rules: the follow-up goes out, the invoice is issued, the alert comes up. Humans keep the decisions.

Automating means handing a program a task that always follows the same rule: when the quote is signed, issue the invoice; when the payment lands, notify the salesperson; when nothing has moved for seven days, follow up.

What automates well: repetitive, clear rules, volume. What stays human: negotiation, exceptions, relationships. And one rule we never trade away: every automatic task leaves a trace, and a failure raises an immediate alert. An automation that fails silently is worse than no automation at all.
