After install

Three commands and you're on the network.

1

Link your account

$zippytal init

Walks you through creating a Zippytal account or signing in. Generates the node identity.

2

Start in the background

$zippytal start

Spawns the daemon detached and opens a Claude-Code-style REPL. Hit /detach when you're done.

3

Stop when you want

$zippytal stop

Sends SIGTERM, drains rooms. Want auto-start at login? `zippytal service install`.

Requirements

If it has a CPU and a network cable, it can host a node.

Any modern CPU

x86_64 or ARM64. Raspberry Pi 4/5 to 96-core bare metal.

100MB free

Binary + state DB. Tor adds ~200MB if enabled.

Outbound HTTPS

No inbound port required — Tor + libp2p hole-punch handle it.

No root needed

Per-user install. System service is opt-in.

Officially supported: macOS 12+ (Apple Silicon & Intel), Linux x86_64 / arm64 (kernel 4.15+), Windows 10+ / Server 2019+, Raspberry Pi 4 & 5.

One node. Your network.
Yours forever.

The daemon is open source under AGPL-3. The protocol is documented. If we vanish, your node and your data still work.
